The Green Whiskman

(loved the incoming envie almost as much as the collage!)

(Here he is in all of his glory. The Green Whiskman mono collage,
originally created for Nick Bantock's book, The Forgetting Room)

(Here the Whiskman sits in his new environment, my kitchen)

Nick recently downsized his house and had a "cleaning out" sale once he got to his new space and needed the room. Unfortunately, I missed out on the sale of his rubberstamps (can you flippin' imagine how awesome his stamp collection was/is?!?) But at least I was able to purchase an original piece. I felt akin to Lester Burnham in American Beauty. "...I've always wanted and now I have it. I RULE!"

"Keeping Posted" c. 1949 by Elvgren.

While I'm showing you my mail-themed kitchen, here is "my Girl", as I affectionately call her.

Elvgren painted a few other postal-themed girls, which I hope to add to my collection one day. But, I fell in love with this one first and she will always hold a special place in my heart.

Outgoings

With the glorious influx of mail as a result of my attendance at Ex Postal Facto, I have been busy replying and have not spent much time documenting what has come in my mailbox.

Here's a few Outgoings while I get my Incomings sorted.

Outgoing: First Collage in 2014

My first collage of 2014! It is small-scale (about 5" x 6.5") but it took me about 4 evenings at the desk to complete. I always know a collage is going to be good when it takes me forever to get it just right. When I layout the pieces, rearrange, step away, come back the next day, move more around, commit to glue, scan, send!

I created this piece especially for Art via Post's mail art call. If it wasn't customized just for Art via Post, I might've actually held on to this one. :) But, it is in the letting go that we make room for more.

Confirmed Receipt: Visions of Bosch

After the original collage failed to make it's way to ColoriMii, I sent a second attempt copy. It finally made it's way! Who knows where the original ended up. I haven't had very good delivery luck when I send collages in clear envelopes.

This collage was so detailed with a ton of tiny pieces, I was worried about sending it naked, so I covered it with a clear envie, plenty of postage and a personal note. Never found it's way.

At least there was time for me to get a copy in to still participate in this project.

Thanks, ColoriMii!

Incoming: New Mail Art Pal, Stephanie Dodson

Juicy envie!

lovely layers of color!

IUOMA Pride

Stephie Dee & Bethany Lee may just have to do a collage collab in the future!

I love Steph's style. Her envie was so full of color and joyful exploration of random large-scale collage, sized down to note card and ATC size. She beat me to the punch on sending out mail. Steph is just on the other side of the state from me. It's neat how small the net is sometimes, as she's also on AFA, IUOMA, and S-B.

Her clown artistamps of "happy mail" are pretty awesome!

Expect a reply soon, Steph!

Intriguing Artist: Dustin Zormeir

Severed Aperture by Dustin Zormeir

Came across this artist while researching bookplates for an upcoming mail art project. Not sure how this image came into the feed, but I absolutely loved it! He has other collages that are just as mesmerizing, but I particularly love the one above.

Outgoing: Bosch Mail Art Call

I previously posted about working on the collage for my entry to the Bosch mail art call and how it was creeping me out. Well, I finally finished it and it will be mailed out this weekend. I'm happy with how it turned out and happy to be sending it far, far away...

(color flash, a bit exaggerated...)

Final scan:

(the actual tones are very subdued and "fuzzy")

Bosch is creeping me out

Reading Heebee's post today re: the Museums of Instant Image's Bosch mail art call reminded me that I have a pic to share of my collage in process for this particular call. I stopped messing with the collage for a little while. It now has a lot more detail than what is shown below. But, I found I had to take a break from working on it. My collages are creative vision work boards for me. Usually what I focus the collage on comes to fruition. And this collage was just plain freaking me out.

I like how it's evolving, and I think it matches Bosch's vision(s), but I needed to step away from it before continuing...
